Return Spiritual Notes for

Preface

These daily Notes on the Spiritual Life are here presented with the hope that, in some small way, they will be a source of light and encouragement to lead souls closer to the good God. As the days go on, various topics and htmects of the spiritual life will be presented but not according to any rigid arrangement. Not everything said will be applicable to everyone, at least not in the same way and to the same degree. The practical application of any point of spiritual doctrine must be done with common sense and prudence. One should make use of the proverb, “If the shoe fits, wear it.” One doesn’t have to scrupulously struggle to squeeze the shoe on until it “fits”. Nevertheless, those who are truly sincere will examine the shoe, and their own foot, with complete honesty.

If there is one thing today that is the cause of so much disquiet and harm to the faithful, it is the discouragement of ever making spiritual progress, or even knowing how. With the help of God’s grace, these notes will be a breath of fresh air to all those earnest and honest souls who are in need of encouragement (and who isn’t?) and those who are somewhat hesitant in approaching our Blessed Lord. Obviously, these reflections make no claim to originality; neither do they claim to be scholarly or necessarily profound. Their aim is to present the spiritual life in a simple and practical way so as to spur on those who are truly eager for spiritual progress and union with God, the one thing on earth that will bestow lasting peace of soul.

As we penetrate more and more into Catholic Spirituality we shall discover that it is as beautiful as it is deep and soul-satisfying. We welcome you to return daily to read these small Notes on the Spiritual Life and reflect on them, and apply them to your daily life.
